La Gata Japonesa was founded in 2017 in the northern mountains of Madrid. The company is made up of circus artists Elena Vives and Diego García, clown and dancer Laura Miralbés, clown Hugo Miró and pianist Ander Yarza. In 2018 they premiered the show Lumières Foraines under the direction of Leandre Ribera and in 2021 the one-man show "Los Viajes de Bowa" starring Elena Vives and directed by Lucas Escobedo. In their shows they combine circus, magic, acrobatics, dance and humor with a carefully staged approach.
The company has received with its short numbers the Mandrakes d'Or in Paris in 2020, the public award and the Roncalli Circus award at the Newcomershow festival in Leipzig in 2018 and has entered the top 30 of the 2nd Online Circus Festival in 2021. At the Fetén festival in Gijón in 2021 Elena receives the award for best circus performer for her participation in the work Creatura by the companies Lapso and Malabart. "Los Viajes de Bowa" received the public award at the Mujeres con Narices festival in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria in 2021 and the Cucha de Otoño festival award, the Kandengue Arts award and the Territorio Violeta Award at the Circada Festival 2020. They are currently creating two shows that will premiere in 2025. "¡Voa!" starring Diego García and "Paipai Rouge" by Elena Vives, with the addition of pianist Ander Yarza. Both under the external gaze of Sergio López and Leandre Ribera.
